9th District Conference.
Theme : Children Are Our Future.
Jennie, John and I enjoyed the District Conference at the Wrest Point Convention Centre in Hobart last weekend along with over 400 others.
The Conference officially opened on the Friday night. The official party and past District Governors were introduced as well as a Roll Call of the attending Clubs. DG Lynne’s granddaughter Lucinda Da Silva provided the entertainment (as well as at various times throughout the weekend) with the Hobart Dance Academy. We heard from the Governor of Tasmania, Her Excellency, Professor The Honourable Kate Warner, AM .
Saturday morning John and I attended the Presidents / Presidents-Elect breakfast where the Rotary International President’s Personal Representative (RIPPR) local Rotarian PDG Ian Shuey gave his first address. Among his numerous Rotary interests (such as ROMAC, Interplast , GSE and Rotary Friendship Exchange) he and his wife Elizabeth have a company called Balloon Magic Pty. Ltd, which has won many international design awards, as prominently displayed at the Conference.
After Saturday’s breakfast, for those wishing to do so, we were bussed to the Salamanca Market area for a few hours. John was delighted to see a display of vintage motor bikes nearby, before we had a exhilarating half-hour ride on a boom trike.
Youth Exchange – We heard from the 14 overseas students, who were mostly from European countries.
