Our Trivia Night with the Langwarrin Scouts is back on again this year. We raised nearly $3000 last year so we will be looking to top that again this year. It will be the same location as last year. We held a very successful ROMAC evening, with 87 people attending and representing 13 Rotary Clubs plus other guests. Over $10,000 was raised. The night was also to honour the work of guest speaker, Associate Professor, Andrew Cochrane, AM, who has done so much for ROMAC over many years. Our club has been hosting this annual event for many years close to Ausralia Day. The current Mayor of Frankston City Council),Cr. Brian Cunial with his assistant, Vera Roberts made the presentations this year to 17 new citizens. Some of their families and friends were there to witness the occasion. Once again, it was a fantastic evening with approximately 90 people in attendance. After a bit of ceremony by the Mayor we had some awesome singing of the National Anthem and flag waving.
This year we awarded two Year 11 students; Harrison Wings and Chelsea from local secondary schools. Each received a cheque for $500 which has enabled them to further their studies.The first Educational Award was presented by the Club in 1989 and the first award given to a Carrum Downs Secondary College Student was in 2008 – the first year the school had a Year 11 student.
he name of Barrelman has come from the idea from Les McNamara, OAM of placing barrels outside the front entrances to hospitals so that people would put their small chanqe there. From that initiative many years ago, we have been able to make annual awards to Grade 6 students from up to ten local schools with book selections of their choice, up to a certain monetary value.
